As you are all aware, we had intended to have our WKA World Championships in Ireland this year.
However, due to the current humanitarian crisis happening to the Ukrainian people, Ireland agreed to house thousands of fleeing refugees.
We have had to rethink our position to not put additional stress on Ireland, which has kindly welcomed these desperate refugees.
We have taken advice from Irelands Sports Minister, and the WKA has regrettably agreed to relocate our World Championships. Our staff has researched venues in Wales, Scotland and England and decided the best option was to book the Pontins Holiday Park in Prestatyn, Wales.
We have secured the full use of this venue for the exact dates we had planned for Ireland solely for the World Championships. The park will host the Championships, Emerge Fight Series finals and several other events.
The park is on the coast with access to the beach, an indoor heated swimming pool, soft play for the kids and other activities to keep you and the family occupied when not competing. With scenic Prestatyn Castle, ancient cathedrals and stately homes just in the local area to visit, along with the famous city of Liverpool just over the border, this year’s Championships is one for all the family.
We are sad not to be going to Ireland, but we are excited to see you all in Prestatyn, Wales. Oh, and for those still wishing to see a little bit of Ireland, it’s only a short ferry ride away!
